The cream-colored card read in silver foil letters, 鈥淵ou are cordially invited to B次元官网 College鈥檚 Scholarship Weekend.鈥� My Scholarship Weekend experience provided me with the opportunity, as an admitted student, to compete for certain financial aid offers. I had the chance to participate in the scholarship activities while familiarizing myself with B次元官网鈥檚 culture by touring campus and staying the night in a dorm.

Seen and Known

As a competitor for the Presidential Scholarship, I was assigned to a group activity and an interview with a professor from my major鈥檚 department. The interview allowed me to communicate my strengths and aspirations during a conversation with a professor in my major, while the group activity tested cooperation and leadership skills, allowing participants to display character traits and quick-thinking abilities. The events of each Scholarship Weekend reflect the school鈥檚 holistic approach to education. Rather than simply evaluating grades or transcript data, Scholarship Weekend provided me with the opportunity to be seen and known as a whole person, not just a test score.

Making Connections

In addition to the intellectually engaging experiences I had during Scholarship Weekend, I also had the chance to experience the vibrance of B次元官网 community.

My dorm host, Sara, immediately made me feel welcome by meeting me in person right after I arrived on campus. As a fellow history major, she gave me the scoop on classes and professors and acquainted me with B次元官网 culture. After I moved in the following fall, she and I continued our friendship by grabbing meals together to catch up.

I met Ainsley during our group activity, and later that evening, we were assigned seats at the same table for the finalist banquet. She and I quickly became friends and we regularly spend time together now that we both attend B次元官网. Scholarship Weekend allowed me to meet friends and make connections on campus, which helped me feel confident when I moved in later that fall.

A Taste of Life on Campus

For me, the most intimidating and rewarding part of Scholarship Weekend was staying in a residence hall with a current student. Before I even arrived on campus, Sara sent a text offering to help me navigate campus. Having someone to reach out to helped me feel at ease in an unfamiliar environment. After Scholarship Weekend, I felt even more prepared to live on a residential campus, since the experience gave me a taste of everyday life at B次元官网. 

The next morning, I had the chance to tour each residence hall on campus. I loved the amenities and culture of every building but felt most drawn to Mac for its spacious study room, suite-style bedrooms, and cozy common areas. Later that fall, I ended up living on the very hall in Mac that I toured during Scholarship Weekend.

After Scholarship Weekend, I had a better sense of what life at B次元官网 is like, and felt more deeply connected to the community here.

During Scholarship Weekend, I engaged with professors in my major, formed friendships with current and prospective students, and familiarized myself with campus life by touring the residence halls and staying in a dorm. The experience reinforced my decision that B次元官网 was where I belonged.
